Diversity

We value the acceptance and fair treatment of all people in our community. Social justice and compassion are highly regarded and actively pursued. We encourage the development of a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities throughout the school to help facilitate individual talents and interests.

Diversity & Cultural Awareness

The acceptance of different cultures is a pivotal component to the creation of a loving and equitable school environment. A school culture where people embrace diversity in the classroom can positively impact the school community.

When this happens, a school community creates a safe, supportive and purposeful environment for students and staff which, in turn, allows students to grow, academically and socially.

In an increasingly fragmented society, the ability to connect with peers, co-workers and neighbours with diverse backgrounds and abilities is invaluable. Diversity improves critical-thinking skills, builds empathy and encourages students to think differently.

We want our students to have an understanding of and respect for the rights, equality and diversity of all without discrimination. We believe it is important to equip students with the skills, attitudes and behaviours needed to develop mutual understanding and respect, empathy, trust and honesty and acceptance.

We want our students to become confident, fair and responsible individuals who make informed and responsible decisions throughout their lives.

Our values convey the beliefs that positively influence our behaviour and the way we interact with individuals, groups and communities

They represent the deepest beliefs and sentiments to which we can aspire, and they shape our SRS school community.

We promote diversity through our comprehensive welfare system which meets the standards set out below:

Values-icons01
Consistently focus on coordinating the efforts of the school, families, and community toward helping students improve their academic achievement and social, emotional, and behavioural competence by using their unique perspective of viewing the student in his or her environment.
Ensure that students are mentally, physically, and emotionally present in the classroom; and promote respect and dignity for all students.
Seek to ensure equitable education opportunities for students, drawing on clearly defined indicators and analytical tools to evaluate student happiness.
Collaborate with and facilitate collaboration among students, parents, teachers, and other school staff to identify ways to intervene early with students who struggle to benefit fully from the provision offered.
Employ evidence-informed, schoolwide prevention programmes and practices that teach positive behaviours, promote social emotional development, and ensure a school climate conducive to learning.
Use evidence-informed, small group, and short-term interventions focused on improving early academic and social–emotional engagement to reduce problem behaviours. For example, these interventions should target conflict resolution, social skills, mental health needs, and short-term crisis situations.
